5G Heterogeneous Networks & Implications on RF Test Webcast

5G in its widest definition promises the convergence of local and wide area networks for seamless reliable, low latency and high-throughput connectivity. Heterogeneous networks will include 4G, 4G LTE, and 5G macro cells operating in the commonly-used sub-6 GHz bands, as well as 5G small cells and Wi-Fi in both sub-6 GHz and in new mmWave bands. 5G cellular wide area networks will provide enhanced mobile broadband speeds of up to 1 Gbps while Wi-Fi mmWave promises speeds in excess of 20 Gbps. In addition, with latencies of less than 10 ms, the end user will have the perception of being always connected and connection status changes will be instantaneous. These network characteristics will enable new endless use cases including enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine-type communications (mMTC), ultra-reliable low latency communications (URLLC) – all within a platform for cloud and artificial intelligence based services spanning from consumer to industrial to automotive applications, etc. This webinar provides an overview of the 5G heterogeneous network components, their characteristics, the resulting use cases possible, and the implications on RF test. From an mmWave test perspective, it means that band-specific instrument architectures will be required to address a variety of frequency bands and higher bandwidths, and radiated signal delivery techniques for massive MIMO and beamforming tests will be needed.
